2015 World Records
at Lac La Martre

The summer of 2015 saw two world records set by guests at Lac La Martre Fishing Adventures in the Northwest Territories. In June, John Cleveland of Detroit, Michigan caught a 46-inch Northern Pike on an 8-lb tippet. His record was certified by the Freshwater Hall of Fame. "I've had the opportunity to fish some of the best Northern Pike waters in North America and Lac La Martre is my first choice for trophy Pike and Lake Trout," says Cleveland. The day after netting his world record, he reports using a fly rod to catch several trophy-class pike and five Lake Trout between 22 and 27 pounds within a two-hour span. "Lac La Martre is the real deal for trophy pike and Lake Trout," he reports.

This was Cleveland's second world record at Lac La Martre. During the summer of 2014, John caught a 46-inch Northern Pike on a fly rod with a 17-lb tippet certified by the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame (read more here: http://nwtfishing.com/?lt=worldrecord).

This summer's other world record was set by George Bernstein of Boca Raton, Florida in July when he caught a 27-1/2 pound Northern Pike using an 8-lb tippet and his own George's Pike Fly. The record was certified by the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA.) "The record fish took me 15 minutes to land using my own fly and tackle," he boasts.

A fisherman since he was 10, the now 79-year-old Bernstein did his own research before selecting Lac La Martre. "The number of huge Northern Pike and Lake Trout taken here is unbelievable," he happily proclaims. For Bernstein, his visits here are much like fishing nirvana. "This was my fourth trip and I can easily catch 300 trophy-class fish in a week. The pike at Lac La Martre are the best fighters and jumpers, too. This is a great place to be a fly fisherman!"

Congratulations to both John and George! Lac La Martre is proud to display these latest world records in our lodge for all to see.

Known for trophy Northern Pike and other monster fish in its 1,000-square mile pristine lake, Lac La Martre is becoming the destination of choice for fishermen seeking the challenge that only the biggest fish can provide.
